Throughout the commonwealth and the nation, there are numerous grants and financial aid resources available that can assist individuals and organizations in meeting their goals. PAsmart Apprenticeship Grants

PAsmart grant funds are used to support the growth of Registered Apprenticeship and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs, creating opportunities in new industries and occupations for Pennsylvania workers to advance along career pathways. This grant program will support schools, students, workers, and businesses across the Commonwealth and reach underrepresented populations, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities, veterans, socio-economic disadvantaged individuals, individuals who speak English as a second language, individuals who were previously incarcerated, or individuals experiencing multiple barriers to employment. Ultimately, PAsmart will help Pennsylvanians develop the skills they need for the job they want, and in turn, support businesses by creating a skilled workforce to hire. Learn more about PAsmart Apprenticeship Grants

Pennsylvania Industry Partnership Grants 

Pennsylvania is seeking industry partnerships that improve economic prosperity and prepare the Commonwealth’s workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow.  The Industry Partnership program requires businesses within a targeted industry partnering to strengthen their industry through training initiatives, recruitment strategies, raising career awareness, and working together to address additional challenges identified by the businesses.  The goal is to increase regional collaboration to support business needs within an industry sector. 

Up to $4 million of funding for Pennsylvania Industry Partnership Grant awards of up to $250,000 each. This Notice of Grant Availability (NGA) seeks applications to support Industry Partnership initiatives across PA that work to identify workforce, education & training, and economic development needs, coordinate regional teams to support industry needs, identify public and community resources to address industry identified needs and increase collaboration among businesses within a targeted industry sector.

Applications must be submitted by 4:00 PM on October 22, 2021.

Digital Literacy and Workforce Development Grant

Digital Literacy and Workforce Development grants provide funds to support effective programs that prepare individuals for improved job search capabilities and greater access to employment postings, to gain access to employment with family-sustaining wages, and to increase communities’ infrastructures for providing foundational digital literacy skills. Acquiring these skills will prepare Pennsylvania job seekers and employees for success in the 21st Century labor market.

Next Generation Industry Partnership Grants

PAsmart Next Generation grants provide funds to support the development, launch, implementation, and technical assistance of Next Gen IPs that are demand-driven in addressing the workforce, economic development, and educational needs of Pennsylvania industries.

2020 PAsmart Next Generation Industry Partnership Grant Awardees

State/Local Internship Program (SLIP)

Pennsylvania’s workforce development system must work with employers and other stakeholders to connect young people with high-quality work-based learning opportunities, paid work experiences and career pathways. Last year’s State/Local Internship Program, or SLIP, placed 1,130 16- to 24-year-old youth and young adults into internships at 657 worksites in a variety of industries.

On March 5, 2020, L&I awarded $4.7 million of SLIP funding to 21 Local Workforce Development Boards that submitted proposals.
