Clifford L. Jones

Clifford L. Jones was born on December 31, 1927, in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. He attended Sharpsville High School, and graduated from Westminster College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. He served with U.S. Army Occupation Forces in Korea in 1946-47.

Jones was an economic developer; and held membership in numerous organizations, including: the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Pennsylvania; the Association of State Planning and Development Agencies; the American Industrial Development Council; and the Board of the Camp Hill Methodist Church. He was named Outstanding Man of the Year by Hazelton Junior Chamber of Commerce and by the Pennsylvania State Chamber of Commerce in 1962.

Jones was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Commerce (now the Department of Community and Economic Development) in 1963-1967, and Secretary from 1967-1969.

Governor Raymond Shafer appointed him Secretary of the Department of Labor and Industry on March 28, 1969.
