State and Federal Job Opportunities

Many state and federal agencies list current job opportunities on their individual websites; however, the following sites also provide information on current, available job openings in various areas of government.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, State Civil Service Commission's website contains a listing of information on current state civil service examinations that are open for application. The job description and qualification requirements for each opening is presented on the site, as well as a civil service application for employment that can be completed online or printed out and completed as a hard copy.

The Summary of Civil Service Examinations lists the test announcements of jobs that are currently open. The list is updated monthly. A hard copy of the current job opportunities list, along with the job descriptions and Civil Service job application, can also be obtained at PA CareerLink offices. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Bureau of State Employment website contains a listing of information on state Non-Civil Service jobs that are currently open. The job title and description for each position are listed on the website, along with a downloadable "Personal Data Sheet", and a sample 'scannable' resume that provides helpful hints to help you develop your own resume. In order to apply for a position, you must submit a Personal Data Sheet and a scannable resume. These forms are available on the Bureau Of State Employment website www.employment.pa.gov or at your local PA CareerLink® office.

Federal Research Service Inc. provides an online search for federal jobs. The site also contains a tool kit specifically targeted for federal job hunters. The kit includes software, publications, services, and provides advice and how-to information needed to land the jobs found in the database. GOVJOBS.COM is a job bank representing federal, military, state, and local government entities. This site provides a job seeker with an interface to US Government human resource departments and their job openings. The website address for these state and federal job opportunities is www.govjobs.com.
