The Commonwealth of PA, Department of Labor and Industry’s Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) IS hiring for qualified candidates for our Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainee(s) position. These individuals will work with Pennsylvanians with disabilities to obtain and/or maintain employment and independence.

Requirements: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in social work, clinical mental health counseling, community counseling, career counseling, psychology, disability and human development, special education, or rehabilitative science, which includes three graduate credits in theories and techniques of counseling. Must be able to perform essential job functions. Must meet PA residency requirement.

Description of Work

Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Trainees receive formal and on-the-job training designed to develop technical skills necessary to serve customers with a wide range of physical, mental, visual, hearing, and/or sensory disabilities. Counselor Trainees identify barriers to employment; evaluate strengths, interests, abilities, and aptitudes; and develop and implement a plan of medical, social, vocational, community, and family services to aid in obtaining suitable employment. Upon successful completion of the training program, trainees will be promoted to the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor job with an increase in salary. Must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.

Salary and Benefits

This is a full-time position. $43,012/year (Pay Scale Group 6, Pay Scale Level 1) with full commonwealth benefits available to new employees include medical benefits, life insurance, a retirement plan, annual, sick leave, eleven paid holidays, and optional Deferred Compensation Savings plan. Permanent employees and their eligible dependents also receive supplemental health benefits after six months of employment. Supplemental health benefits include prescription drugs, dental, vision and hearing aid coverage. Upon successful completion of the training program, trainees will be promoted to the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (Pay Scale Group 7, Pay Scale Level 1) job with an increase in salary.
